The Otsuka Group was founded by Busaburo Otsuka in 1921, and Toshimi Otsuka, my aunt, who had been the greatest supporter of both my grandfather and father, expressed her sincere wish to make a social contribution by offering a monetary donation. In honor of her desire, we have come to a decision to establish the Otsuka Toshimi Foundation to provide financial support to foreign students from Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Since the launch of its business overseas in 1973, the Otsuka Group has grown to count 150 affiliated companies in 23 countries worldwide. 10 of those 23 countries are in the regions of Asia, the Middle East and Africa, where we now have a total of 53 companies with 14,000 employees, making a considerable contribution in the field of healthcare and medicine. The Otsuka Group owes much to the governments, business partners, employees and clients of these regions, as it is by their support that the Otsuka Group has prospered to what it is today.
Through the Otsuka Toshimi Foundation program, we express our sincere gratitude and wish to help develop and nourish the talents of individuals, and promote further advancement in these regions.
Our scholarship was provided to 22 students in 2007, 49 students in 2008 and 50 students in 2009. We have prepared to support more applicants this year and I hope to hear from many interested individuals.
Sincerely,
Akihiko Otsuka
Chairman
